Alphabet Sequence
Alphabet Sequence means putting the letters in the correct order from A to Z.
When we know the alphabet in order, it helps us sing the alphabet song, find letters quickly, and put letters where they belong.
Today we will learn how to say the letters in order, how to find the letter that comes before or after, and how to fix letters that are out of order.
The alphabet has 26 letters.
Here they are in order:

You can practice saying them slowly first, then faster.
Think of the alphabet like a letter train. Each letter has its own place. If one letter is missing or in the wrong spot, the train is out of order.
Important words:
- Before means the letter that comes first.
- After means the letter that comes next.
- In order means the letters are in the right alphabet sequence.
Let’s look at the alphabet in small parts. Learning small parts can make it easier.

You can clap as you say each letter. You can also point to each letter as you read it.
Main Idea 1: Say the letters in order
The alphabet always stays in the same order. We do not change the places of the letters.
For example, C comes after B, and D comes after C.
Main Idea 2: Find the letter before and after
If you know one letter, you can think about its neighbors.
- The letter before G is F.
- The letter after G is H.
This helps you keep the alphabet in the correct order.
Main Idea 3: Look for missing letters
Sometimes a letter is missing from a row. We can use the letters before and after to figure out what belongs there.
Example: L M __ O
The missing letter is N, because N comes after M and before O.
Main Idea 4: Fix letters that are out of order
Sometimes letters are mixed up. We can put them back in the right sequence.
Example: R T S
These letters should be R S T.

Let’s say the alphabet: A, B, C.
After B comes C.
Answer: C

Let’s say the letters around it: H, I, J.
Before J comes I.

We say the alphabet part: P, Q, R, S.
The missing letter is R.

Put these letters in order: W, U, V
Let’s think about the alphabet: U, V, W.
So the correct order is U V W.
